On Tuesday Jak became a big brother!  Baby #2 (parents still working on a name!) weighed in at 7 lbs 11 oz. and 20″ long.  Mom and baby brother are doing great, and Dad is doing fine too considering being worn out a bit as the official labor Jello runner.

Jak’s first taste of brotherhood was a little bittersweet, however.  Encouraged to introduce himself to the new baby, Jak walked up, shook hands, and said hi.  Baby was still a little groggy so it’s understandable why his eyes were closed during the intro.  Apparently confused, but rightfully so, Jak figured maybe he should open baby’s eyes!  Quick on the draw telling Jak to quit addressing baby’s eyes directly with his finger, Jak got a little bummed out and verbally let the family know his dissapointment – “This new little brother thing isn’t as cool as you guys promised!”

Nevertheless, the family had a great reunion.  Grandma and Grandpa showed up, as did several flower bouquets and congratulatory phone calls.  The new family couldn’t be happier… and despite his initial reaction, we know Jak can’t wait to

share his wealth of knowledge and skill with his new brother and we look forward to the results.

Jak discovered the pool table last month.  Dad was trying to make a few bucks (and sadly losing it) and Jak pulled over a chair to watch.  After watching Dad pathetically scratch on the eight ball, Jak figured it was his turn.

Talk about trick shots!  Jak quickly learned the feel of the cue, which balls to hit, and the objective of the game.  It wasn’t long before he was cleaning up the table.

At one point, Jak simply called ‘em all into the back corner pocket… and made ‘em.

Here’s a teaser from the Vlog.  We went to the County Fair several weeks ago and in one of the kid’s tents there was a guy showing kids how to spin a basketball.  Jak was really just amazed that this was physically possible.  You figure in two years and Jak’s been figuring out all he can about physics and gravity, and now this!  Must have blown his mind

Yesterday was quite fun – Jak and I went to the grassy knoll across the street from our home an threw a baseball around. It was more like toss-and-Daddy-fetch but we had fun. After half and hour our neighbor friends came by with their son, Manuel. Manual is about five and a HUGE star wars fan (takes after his own daddy). Needless to say, Manuel came with his light sabers. Manuel passed one to Jak who quickly learned how to swing his light saber and make that whhaaawww whhhaaawww swooshing noise (c’mon – I know you’re making the noise right now!).

It was fun watching the two of them duke it out. The only camera I had at the time was my other neighbor Scott’s iPhone. So sorry for any blurriness. I didn’t expect to witness anything so fun that particular afternoon.

Today was the Fairfax County fair, which turned out to be considerably larger than we thought it would be. There was an amusement park with rides, multiple concert venues, and all the cotton candy and funnel cakes anyone could want (or their cardiologist wouldn’t). Jak basically ate his way through the fair, enjoying a little (virgin) margarita as we stolled and took in the sites, rides, and crafts.

As it happened, in one of the concert venues was one of Mom and Dad’s favorite bands, Eddie From Ohio concert. This turned out to be one of the highlights for Mom and Dad at the fair – Dad used to see these guys play at a bar in Virginia every Wednesday night, seemingly not that long ago, when you could still pleasantly describe a bar as smoky and full of sweat. Ahh… memories.

We did happen to catch a full hour and a half of EFO at the fair, and not surprisingly, Jak loved it. We caught a few seconds of Jak grooving out and taking the time to really listen to the music

Following the show, we ran into the cops. Seems Jak was having too good a time. I guess like Father like son – there’s nothing like having a criminal record before you’re 2. After a few snapshots of Jak being taken into custody by Fairfax County P.D., we ventured on.

With local law enforcement now at our back, we happened upon none other than Elmo. Jak all of a sudden couldn’t have cared less about anything else that happened that afternoon. Elmo was his pal. Good think Hanukkah is so far off because I might actually be able to buy one of those frakkin’ dolls before they sell out.

June was a hot month at home so when Grandma and Grandpa opened their pool, one of the first swimmers was future Olympic swimmer medalist, Jak.

Being as this was Jak’s first time in a pool, Mom and Dad weren’t sure about what swimwear option would suit Jak the best. Careful research concluded there’s the kind of trunk that let’s the body “breathe” and the kind that works sort of like of trash bag holding a pile of wet mulch. Being as the visualization hadn’t quite kicked in yet, the wet mulch option seemed the safest for the health of other swimmers…

… and as the saying goes:

We don’t swim in your toilet, so please don’t pee in our pool

We felt obliged.

Jak quickly acclimated to the pool since Grandpa keeps the water temperature at a balmy 90 degrees. It’s like a race with the jacuzzi, which primordial body of water has a better chance of spawning new life. In fact, to cool off on a hot summer day off it’s sometimes worth exiting the pool to take a dip in the air!

Though, Jak didn’t seem to mind at all. It was sort of like taking a bath, but with more people and without all the toys.

Uncle Joe even joined for a swim, which for him is a regular weekly activity.

Following our swim, we all cooled off, had a snack, and Jak rode around on this new ATV – it’s Flintstones powered so it’ll take a couple more month before Jak can make tracks, but until then, blaring the horn and hearing the engine turn over (and over and over) seems more than fulfilling.
